The doors opened Monday (Jan. 22) in Jackson on the first newly built, stand-alone retail store in the 40-year history of Goodwill Industries of South Central Ohio.
The 8,500-square-foot store on McCarty Lane held its grand opening on Wednesday, inviting the community to take part in the celebration of the store and learn more about the attended donation center. Donors now are able to drive under a canopy at the rear of the store and have an employee help them unload. The store is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
“We are very excited to launch this new store as it represents a whole new chapter for this Goodwill,” said CEO Marvin Jones. “The support we’ve received from the people in Jackson and the surrounding area has been greatly appreciated and this provides them with a clean and attractive environment in which to shop and support our mission of improving the lives and job opportunities for those with disabilities and disadvantages.”
Brenmar Construction of Jackson built the facility, next to Dakota’s Roadhouse, that also includes a work center where employees, some with developmental disabilities, process the donations to get them ready for the sales floor. TAT Realty LLC is leasing the structure to Goodwill, which formerly had a store on East Main Street. Brenmar is building another new store for Goodwill on Columbus Road in Athens that’s expected to open in May.
Goodwill has stores and provides employment and other services in Jackson, Ross, Pike, Vinton, Pickaway, Fayette, Athens and Hocking counties.
