Goodwill Industries of South Central Ohio is proud to announce it will be opening the Athens Activities and Training Center later this year.
With this center, Goodwill continues to further its mission of improving the quality of life and helping find jobs for those in Athens County with disabilities and barriers to employment. The center, being finished next door to the new retail store on Columbus Road near U.S. 33, will focus on providing activities and training to introduce participants to various life skills experiences and take part in regular community events and activities.
The 3,600 square foot center is designed to serve participants with developmental disabilities in and near Athens County. This will provide an added choice for those who have or will transition out of Atco, which is going to close at the end of December. Goodwill staff has been working with the employees and participants at Atco to determine what program activities best fit the needs of people in Athens County. Possibilities include classes on cooking, art, music, learning to make crafts and explore new hobbies as well as day trips for swimming and shopping or other personal choices.
“We are excited to be able to serve the Athens community with this new center as it is a great complement to our new retail store which will open in September,” said Marvin Jones, CEO of Goodwill. “The community has been great to us over the years with donations and patronage of our store and we felt this was another way in which we can provide services.”
In addition to the activities, Goodwill will offer a workforce development component that will provide assistance for individuals to obtain, maintain or advance in community employment or self‐ employment.
As construction draws to a close, an open house and tours will be available. To learn more about the center and inquire about obtaining services or employment, contact Goodwill at 740‐702‐4000 Ext. 144 or email email@example.com.
