Proceeds remain local and assist with our mission to partner with individuals with disabilities and challenges to help them lead the lives they envision.

By donating a vehicle to Goodwill of South Central Ohio, you may be eligible for a tax advantage while helping to support individuals with disabilities and other barriers in your own community. If you do not itemize deductions on your tax return or you do not wish to claim a tax deduction, there is no action required on your part. However, if plan to claim the donation for a tax deduction you will be required to determine the fair market value.
Donated vehicles will be inspected for mechanical defects. If it is determined the vehicle can be used as part of our Goodwill fleet, you will receive a 1098-C noting it is for significant intervening use in our transportation services or employment for needy individuals.
If we determine it is not needed in our fleet, it will be advertised and sold by our eCommerce department. If the vehicle is sold, a 1098-C will note the date of the sale and the sale price if it exceeds $500.
If you intend to claim a tax deduction of more than $500, you will be limited to the sale price that Goodwill receives for the vehicle. If the sale price turns out to be $500 or less, you can deduct the Fair Market Value up to $500, regardless of the sale price.
Questions regarding a tax benefit should be directed to a tax professional or the IRS.
