Job helps build self confidence, independence

When someone suggested Febry call on Goodwill’s Workforce Development Program to get help with finding a job, she decided to give it a shot. Little did she know, she’d actually find herself working for the Goodwill store.

Her journey with Goodwill began last year when she was paired with Employment Specialist Miranda Winchell. They talked together about what Febry may like to do, worked on writing a resume, interview skills, and how to start looking for jobs.

Miranda describes 28-year-old Febry as a bit shy with new people and “amazing” – she’s a hard worker, professional, and very determined.

As Febry, who is from Athens, began applying for jobs, Miranda learned the Athens Goodwill store was looking for an associate to process donations. Febry applied and interviewed for the job and started in September 2019.

“I like how everyone here is so nice to work with, and they’re so understanding,” Febry said.

And like most people, having a job has helped Febry personally.

“It’s definitely made me a lot more confident being around people. Also, being able to do something for myself is nice,” Febry said.

If you know someone who may benefit from working with our Workforce Development team in any of our eight counties, have them call the main office at 740-702-4000.
